Holiday Wishes

This year, United Way of Greater New Bedford and Fun 107 are once again teaming up to fulfill Holiday Wishes for families and individuals on the SouthCoast. Tune in from starting at 6:35 am all week (Dec. 6-10) to hear how you can help these families. Holiday Wishes allows us to help several SouthCoast families in need, in hopes of making the holidays a little brighter.

Meet this year's families:

Monday 12/6
Martin Family of Fall River- Julie has had a tough few years after she lost her job of 18 years when she was diagnosed with epilepsy. While trying to get her treatment under control, she contracted COVID-19 and it was a huge setback for her. She's in constant pain, has paresthesia, and is trying to raise her 3 children with the help of her mom. Click here to learn more about the family.

Tuesday 12/7
Mignault Family of New Bedford - Sherrie is raising her 3 grandchildren and lost her husband to cancer earlier this year. Just a few months after his passing, their apartment was engulfed in flames and forced the family into a hotel until they find a new home. Click here to learn more about the family.

Wednesday 12/8
Aristides Arruda had what was supposed to be a routine back surgery in August, but due to a medical error, Aristides wound up having his left foot amputated. Being out of work has been difficult for him and his wife since he was the sole income in the home. Click here to learn more about the family.

Thursday 12/9
The Taveras Family of Fall River has been battling COVID and its effects since March of 2020 when Juan first contracted COVID. The virus left half of his body paralyzed after he had a COVID related stroke at the age of 32. After months of therapy, Juan was doing better and returned to work. Just a few months ago, his wife Linda got sick with COVID and he once again contracted it. She ended up in the hospital on a vent and the family was unsure if she would survive. They are both now home, COVID free, but still battling the lasting effects. Linda has 80% scaring on her lungs and is on oxygen for the foreseeable future. Juan will most likely never regain full motion again from the stroke and was weaken by the second bought of COVID. The family needs a portable concentrator to convert air into oxygen, prepared meals since neither of them can be near a stove, and assistance with medical bills that are piling up. Friday 12/10
You may remember in June a local fire that happened in Dartmouth on Reed Road. Since the fire, the Bumpus family has been living in a trailer on the site of their burnt home (still semi-standing, but unlivable). This family of 16 people (9 children) needs the community to rally and help them with a better place to live until the current home can be torn down and rebuilt, winter clothing for the children, and some basic household essentials. Click here to learn more about the family.
