Volunteer Spotlight: Molly Shields

Molly Shields first choice for her UMass Dartmouth Health and Society Capstone Internship was UWGNB. Through interning, Molly hoped to learn more about the non-profit world as part of her career exploration.

In September, Molly began evaluating a recently completed landscape analysis and comparing it to other communities similar to the Greater New Bedford region. She identified effective programs in other communities that could help UWGNB shape a new strategic plan.

Despite satisfying her course work, Molly stayed on during her spring semester to get a behind the scenes looks at the day-to-day operations of a non-profit. She spent time on the Hunger Commission truck delivering food to local pantries and working at Mobile Markets, assisting with the logistics of our holiday initiatives, and supporting our events like Hunger Heroes and Power of the Purse. Day after day, Molly arrived at UWGNB with a smile on her face, ready to learn and support the UW team in any way she could.

Earlier this month, Molly received her Bachelor of Arts in Health and Society with a minor in Business Administration. We are so thankful for her work with us and wish her the best in her future endeavors!
